Map
This map represents the geographical locations in Part 1: Books 1, 2, 3, and 12 in the Astrée (1607) by Honoré d'Urfé. Using Google Maps, we uploaded data sheets that outlined the different locations mentioned in the Astrée and their location in the narrative levels of the complex text. As can be seen on the map, the levels, diegetic and metadiegetic, both show a wide variety of places mentioned. Using the legend in the map, you can hide layers to examine one narrative level or the other, or look at one book in particular. Feel free to move the map around to see the full scope of geographic reference represented in this sections of the novel. Below, we have provided links to our spreadsheets in case you might be interested in replicating the data. If you do work with our data, please let us know!
